We are looking for a talented In-House Legal Counsel to support our rapidly growing and evolving transportation and logistics businesses.

Responsibilities.

As an In-House Legal Counselor at UC Group, you will draft, review, evaluate, negotiate, and manage contracts for all of UC Group’s entities, which includes an asset-based carrier, full truckload and less-than-truckload brokerages, a truck & trailer repair shop, and a new knowledge-based supply chain solutions brokerage. Furthermore, you will assist with the day-to-day legal decisions that need to be made so that UC Group can effectively and successfully do business with customers, suppliers, vendors, carriers, and other logistics companies.

Job highlights and main responsibilities of In-House Legal Counsel include:

  • Review and draft various commercial agreements, including nondisclosure agreements, master services agreements, transportation agreements, codes of conduct, and other contracts related to our transportation companies;
  • Provide contract review for UC Group business units, including asset-based motor carrier and third-party logistics broker;
  • Assist claims department with escalated cargo claims;
  • Focus on the continual improvement in the quality and simplicity of the contract management processes, without compromising compliance, through the use of digital signature and contracting technologies;
  • Manage compliance projects, Keep up to date on employment and regulatory rule changes, and drive policy initiatives, ensuring UC Group is in compliance in all aspects of its business;
  • Provide legal advice across a wide range of issues including employee relations, wage and hour issues, restructurings, workplace investigations, employee litigation, HR policy creation and implementation, restrictive covenant matters, M&A, and employee discipline;
  • Review and update employment policies and plans, including employee handbooks, bonus plans, compensation guidelines, summary plan descriptions and severance programs;
  • Facilitate seamless access to the legal department and its institutional knowledge through the organization and centralization of key templates, policies, processes, memos, and other resources;
  • Identify legal and reputational risks and recommend solutions that balance risk with business impact;
  • Maintain and oversee a sustainable records retention and litigation preparedness program;
  • Develop strategies for handling legal issues in creative, business-centric ways;
  • Build processes that address risk and allow the business flexibility and freedom to move quickly; and
  • Resolve issues that arise in existing commercial relationships and handle pre-litigation disputes and inquiries.
